Prerequisites

Any, but a good personal motivation is essential to make a success of this "accelerated" learning.

Main themes
  • Development of the communicative competence of the student in general Spanish.
  • The contexts of communication as well as the subjects are bound to the needs for a stay of studies like 'Erasmus'.
  • Raising awareness to the cultures of the Spanish-speaking countries.
Aims

At the end of the course, the students should have developed the skills of 'Basic User (Waystage)', which is the level A1+ of the 'Common European Framework of Reference for Languages' (Council of Europe):

  • Be able to understand and use familiar everyday expressions and basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type.
  • Be able to introduce him/herself and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people he/she knows and things he/she has.
  • Be able to interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
  • Be able to understand the main points of clear standard input.
  • Be able to deal with most of the situations likely to appear in a Spanish-speaking university.
Evaluation methods
  • The evaluation is continuous: formative and certificative.
  • The final examinations will be written and oral.
Teaching methods

The course follows the communicative method.

Content

Course intended first and foremost for the 'in hurry' novice students, for example, because they have to leave for Latin America or for Spain immediately following the lessons.

This course tries to develop the autonomy of the student by means of the active learning of the normative grammar of standard Spanish, until the contents (conjugations) corresponding rather to the level B2 of the 'Common European Framework of Reference for Languages'.
To reach this purpose, rather ambitious, the teaching leans strongly on the existing similarities between Romance languages, in particular between Spanish and French.
The extension of the vocabulary does not constitute the first priority of the course.

At the level of the oral expression, the accent is put by advantage on the communication that on the correction; however, a particular attention will be tuned to the phonetic correction.

The student will be capable

  • of reading texts of his domain of studies and of understanding the main part of simple descriptive or narrative papers.
  • also to write brief and current documents.
Bibliography
  1. Book of Spanish grammar published in Latin America.
  2. Course notes 'Español G: bases de Gramática' and 'Cuaderno de Ejercicios' de Mrs Isabel Baeza Varela (UCL-ILV).
  3. Videos and Appendix grammatical of the method 'Viaje al Español' of the University of Salamanca.
  4. Songs of the Spanish and Latin America folklore.
  5. Other didactisés or authentic texts will be supplied to the students.
Other information

Our comment is to realize, as far as possible, an accompaniment personalized to the students.
It is essential that they become actors of their learning.

The number of students by group will not be bigger than 20, maximum 25 students.
