Main themes To meet these objectives, the course studies the Protestant Reformation in its principal forms, from the Council of Trent, with consequences (Catholic Reform, Counter Reformation) that have left an indelible mark on Catholicism (urgings from Rome and certain religious orders, resistance to reform, spiritual dynamism, missionary expansion), but also State Catholicism (Spain - Portugal, France, Austria), the Jansenist controversy, anti-clericalism in the18th century and the French Revolution from a religious angle.
Aims History of Christianity: Modern Times By the end of this course, the student should be able to: - situate the principal chronological markers of the history of Christianity in modern times; - read historical sources with a critical spirit; - make proper use of the working tools of the Medieval historian.
