Main themes

The course aims at offering a panorama of a chosen genre or theme in the particular context of the fifteenth century and through the works of François Villon.

Aims

To initiate students' training to the literary context of the fifteenth century through the in-depth examination of texts chosen according to their genre or theme. To diversify readings and fields of analysis of works in middle french.

Evaluation methods

Oral exam.

Teaching methods

Lectures with a variety of teaching materials : reading extracts from works ; PowerPoint presentations

Content

A historical panorama of the fifteenth century will be given in the first place, with particular attention to Villon and his century.

A more detailed analysis will follow, structured around a genre or a precise theme relevant to Villon's poetry : death, pauverty, jail ; the debate, the allegory, etc.
