Prerequisite : the lectures GLOR 1542/GLOR1541 are strongly advised but not compulsory.

Main themes |
The theme will change according to the year. However, the approach will mainly be sociological, anthropological and political.

Aims |
This lecture aims at deepening the knowledge of Oriental and more especially of Indian Culture and Civilization. It will alternate with GLOR 1542 Cultures and Civilisations of India and the Far East I.

Evaluation methods |
The students will be orally examined. Attendance to the lecture is compulsory. An essay on a specific topic may be also be required.

Content |
Various approaches will be proposed in relation to culture, politics and religion of the area under study. India will be privileged. Caste, untouchability, politics and popular religion will be among the different topics under study. The topic will be different from that of the alternating year GLOR 2543 Culture and Civilisation of India and the Far East (II).
