LGLOR 1621 and LGLOR 1622 a course deemed equivalent by the lecturer.

Main themes |
Alternately with LGLOR2622, this course deals with the following themes:
1. Translation, with comments, of a literary text in Middle Egyptian (15 hours lectures);
2. Personal translation of another text in Middle Egyptian (15 hours exercises);
3. Translation, with commentaries, of royal and private inscriptions (15 hours lectures);
4. An initiation into Late Egyptian and the translation, with commentaries, of a text (15 hours lectures);
5. An initiation into hieratic writing or an exercise of epigraphy (7.5 hours exercises).
Students who are following the course partim (5 credits) will follow themes 1, 3 and 5.

Aims |
Approfondissement et élargissement des connaissances de la langue et des textes de l'Égypte pharaonique.
Au terme de ce cours, l'étudiant sera capable de lire, de translittérer et de traduire avec aisance des textes épigraphiques et littéraires en moyen égyptien. En outre, il aura été initié à l'écriture hiératique et au néo-égyptien, et aura abordé un texte d'époque ramesside.

Oral exam based on written preparation.

Teaching methods |
Translations are done based on previous preparation by the students. The correction of the transliteration on the blackboard emphasises the structure and composition of the phrases, as well as an analysis of the verbal forms that are encountered. A commentary on the historical or religious questions completes the grammatical analysis of the text.

Content |
The course aims to deepen and enlarge the knowledge and practice of the language that was learnt in the first cycle. According to the year, the themes treated will be studied in the light of the following texts:
1. literary text in middle Egyptian: The tale of Sinuhe (first half), the tale of the Eloquent Peasant, the teaching of Ptahhotep, etc.
2. the individual translation: the Tale of Sinuhe (2nd half), the teachings of Amenemhat, the biography of Ahmes son of Abama, etc.
3. epigraphic texts: royal or private stela, cave inscriptions, inscriptions on historic scenes (Old, Middle or New Kingdom)
4. text in neo-Egyptian: the hymn to the Aton, the bulletin of Kadesh, the tale of the two Brothers, Papyrus Harris 1, etc.
5. reading of an extract of a text in hieratic writing: Sinuhe (papyrus R and B), pMillingen, pHarris 1, pRaifé
