Main themes |
American law is very extensive, and there would be no attempt to provide more than a partial overview during the hours assigned to it.
The content will depend mainly upon the teachers invited to give this course.
In any event, it will ensure that students receive an introduction to American constitutional law, as well as American economic law. Other subjects may be covered, depending upon the teachers' expertise and the students' interests.
Teaching takes the form of questions given to the students and they must then respond by taking account of the documents read prior to the class. These documents will be judgements in case law, but also more basic texts such as those on the American constitution.
A file of documents will be supplied to students at the start of classes.

Aims |
The course offers instruction in the basics of American law.
The student must be able to understand and remember the principles and legal rules that this course covers, to understand how the American legal order is structured, how American jurists reason, and also, how it is taught in American universities.
The teaching is designed to stimulate a critical awareness of the subject and the values underlying the American legal order.
