Main themes

The student acquires tools from the economic theory, namely industrial organization. The student is able to analyze strategic choices, the evolution of competition, firm integration and performances in agro-industrial branches. Theoretical models are articulated with empirical studies from the international specialized literature. The student develops autonomous reading and learning skills.

Aims
Content
  1. Elements of game theory: normal form games, developped form games, equilibrium concepts, agency (Principal-Agent relationship).
  2. Cournot versus Bertrand competition.
  3. Product differentiation (vertical, horizontal, information asymetries and market failures).
  4. Vertical versus Horizontal integration and contract theory.
  5. Potential competition, excess capacity, entry barriers.

The role of external actors (State, consumers and others) is a transversal theme. The course relies upon skills previously acquired by the students (game theory, econometrics).

Pre-requisitecourse: intermediate micro-economics (such as taught in Principes d'Economie et Economie des Ressources Naturelles et de l'Environnement).
