Main themes - routes of transmission of communicable diseases - sanitary risks - faeces elimination - garbage elimination - waste water elimination - protection and treatment of water sources - Fighting against vectors
Aims - to be aware that sanitation is an important tool in the prevention of communicable diseases - to identify the key elements of a sanitation project - to know the most important sanitation technologies and the best ways for fighting against vectors - to be able to initiate and/or to follow and/or evaluate a sanitation project in collaboration with specialized technicians
Content - description of the routes of transmission of communicable diseases in general ; application of this model specifically in the elimination of faeces, garbage, waste water, water sources protection, fighting against vectors to identify the most appropriate place where the actions have to be developed - description of sanitary risks linked with an inappropriate elimination of faeces, garbage, waste water or by a misuse of water sources or lack of vectors control - description of the main technologies for eliminating correctly faeces, garbage, waste water - quality of water. Protection of water sources. Methods to treat non drinking water. - description of the methods to fight against the main vectors (chemical, bacteriological, environmental….) - conditions to have a successful sanitation project in general and specifically in the 5 topics of the cursus The theoritical part of the cursus is supported by slides Presentation of concrete examples on slides Discussion and sharing experience between professor and students
