Main themes

The content varies from one year to another, and focuses on four to six texts of modern and contemporary theatre, from the Lumière brothers to the present day. The texts are chosen and studied each year with reference to a specific theme. Examples in recent years have included the idea of the 'intimate theatre', comic writing, the dramaturgy of Huis Clos, nomadism, the parable, etc. The dramaturgical approach involves analysing the structure of plays according to the main categories of theatrical poetics (action, space, time, character, language, etc.), and by relating this dramatical structure to the historical period in which the play was written and contemporary issues of dramatic creativity.

Aims

A dramaturgical approach to modern and contemporary theatre texts through the examination of their internal structure (action, characters, etc.).
