Main themes - Elements from political philosophy and social sciences on integration models (in a comparative perspective), in order to situate the roots of each model as well as its political and institutional consequences; - Theories of culture and of interculturality: outlooks from the social sciences ; - Collective work of critical incidents brought by students (from professional o private spheres), in order to build with them a "practical knowledge" (analytical and reflexive skills) on how to deal with intercultural situations.
Aims The course aims to help students to : - a better understanding of contemporary multicultural societies (issues related to integration national models,…); - a better understanding of the concept of culture from different theoretical perspectives (historically situated); - a better understanding of the social effects of using certain meanings of "culture" and "cultural difference"; - to build a definition of the concept of culture, as a complex and socially built issue. More fundamentally, students will be invited to work on experienced situations (as "critical incidents") in order to adopt a "reflexive position" and to take distance regarding one's own cultural evidences (national, ethnic, social or professional ones). The aim of this exercise is to build a "situated" or "practical knowledge" in order to react adequately to intercultural situations.
