Humanitarian Action and Development [ LHUMA2200 ]

- The role of local and international actors that are present in the field of humanitarian action 

- Economics, social, cultural, political and environmental consequences of humanitarian action in specific regions, including the links between urgency, rehabilitation and development, and the strategies to reduce the vulnerability of populations to natural disasters

- Gender and conflict, and the role of gender in programmes of humanitarian aid and development

- Humanitarian action and development in the context of specific interventions (both punctual and structural) – case studies

- Theories of development

- Deconstruction of a development intervention: agency of actors involved

- Development aid and the Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper

- Case study analysis of development projects

Offer the students the elements that will allow him/her to analyse the continuum – continguum humanitarian aid – development; and its links with reconstruction and sustainable development.

The evaluation will be based upon an individually written paper

The course will draw from various scholarly papers, and will present lessons from specific research experiences.
