Main themes The training course comprises 240 hours during which the student is confronted with the real world of documentation. Under the supervision of professional librarians, he discovers the service of acquisitions of monographs and periodicals (10 H); loan and welcoming services (reference librarian) (20 H); managing documentary stock, reserves and questions of conservation (10 H); the student is taught catalography, classification and indexing (80 H). Under the supervision of the library economy and bibliometry course instructor, the student analyzes and uses a documentary software program (40 H) in teams; he carries out a study of bibliometry applied to technological monitoring and knowledge management (40 H) as well as an advanced study in documentation retrieval (40 H).
Aims Investigating questions on management of a library or information centre within a university context that is generally known by the student before being confronted with a library or documentation centre outside the university (HIST 9534). The training course is in direct connection with the theoretical course on library economics and bibliometry (CLIB2110)
Other information The final grade is a synthesis of evaluations made by professional librarians (learning about services and catalography) and by the supervisor of three applied projects (bibliometry, advanced documentation retrieval and documentary software). These last three projects lead to a written work and its presentation to professionals in documentation.
