Main themes |
The second part of the course will be devoted to the conceptual handling of data (selection, elimination, making inventories, etc.), to its communication, and to the demonstration of the value of this activity.
In-service visits to archives, meetings with archivists, and a series of lectures will round off and detail particular points of instruction.

Aims |
Archivistics is a scientific discipline dealing with conservation, management, and proper use of archives, in whatever medium or format. Instruction will concern first terminology current in the field, and general principles, including technical and legal problems with preservation of data (problems inherent in new technologies of information and communication), questions of selection and elimination, of description and classification of catalogued items for permanent conservation, creation of research instruments (catalogues, inventories, guides, etc.), and the communication of this heritage and demonstration of its value to the larger society.
