Prerequisites

Knowledge of Hittite.
 

Main themes

The course will familiarize the student with :
1) the study of Hurrian grammar and texts (Tablets Kbo XXXII 14,15... and Hurrian texts from Emar and Ugarit) ;
2) the study of Luwian texts of the first millenium and of Lycian texts.


 

Aims

Provide each student or scholar interested in Asia Minor or Syria with the necessary philological background.

Evaluation methods

The lectures are essentially magisterial with a continuous evaluation; the examen consists of the presentation of a not studied Luwian inscription

Content

The lectures of LGLOR2771 are relating to the knowledge of the Luwian language, a sister-language of  hittite, required to-day for each hittitologist and specialist of the indigenous languages of Ancient Asia Minor. We will also initiate a study of many Luwian inscriptions with hieroglyphic writing.
