Main themes Grammatical initiation and practical training on Coptic language (Sahidic dialect). If the student followed first the course GLOR 2731 : further study of Sahidic Coptic ; initiation to other Coptic dialects ; initiation to reading of manuscript texts.
Aims At the end of this lecture, the student should be able to read, translate and comment grammatically Coptic text of average difficulty, using such tools as dictionaries and grammar.
Content Theoretical preliminaries : morphology and syntax. Reading and analysis of easy texts, then of average difficulties, beginning for instance with passages from the gospels.. Method : magistral course on theoretical preliminaries. The texts are prepared and explained by the student, then discussed during the lesson to state more precisely and enlarge grammatical knowledge.
Other information Prerequisite, but knowing Greek is useful and ancient Egyptian is complementary. Evaluation : continuous evaluation through the exercises during the lessons ; oral exam at the end of the year.
