Main themes The course is alternating with the course GLOR 2631. Texts will be chosen from different parts of the Bible and from ancient extrabiblical texts. Exegetical or historical interests of the students will be taken into consideration : - Critical study of Biblical texts ; - Linguistic study based on the comparative grammar of the Semitic languages ; - Critical look at the ancient versions of the Bible ; - Study of the Biblical text in its historical, theological and cultural context.
Aims To give an overview of Hebrew Biblical literature during the different periods of its history and in its various genres : historical, prophetical, wisdom and poetical genre.
Content An essentially grammatical commentary of Hebrew texts from the Bible. A few texts from Pre-exilic inscriptions. Extracts from Qumranic and Mishnaic writings. The object is to introduce the student to the historical grammar of Hebrew and to questions of lexicography.
Other information Prerequisite : Elementary Hebrew language course or sufficient knowledge of elementary Biblical Hebrew. Evaluation : Oral exam on the material studied during lectures and also on the texts which the student prepares by himself/herself. Teaching materials : Hebrew Bible ; Hebrew Grammar, Dictionnary of Biblical Hebrew of one's own choice.
