Main themes Content : The book and its techniques, from manuscripts to printed works. Description of the techniques of bookmaking and publishing. A study about the reading and the circulation of books.
Aims To bring the students to think about the book as a material object.
Content The "book" is approached in a general manner from the first manuscripts to the current developments in computer science. Focussing on book production conditions and the evolution of book production through the ages, the course shows the constant relation between texts, book production techniques, and potential readers.
Other information Evaluation : oral examination. Support : student notes, handbook "Introduction à l'histoire du livre" de Jean-François Gilmont (Cefal, 2005), documents on i-campus.
