Main themes The course enlights how European policies, decisions and legal system interfere in the national policies and how Member States shape their national preferences to participate in the bargaining at the European level.
Aims This course prepares the student to take into account the growing involvement of the European policies, politics and polity in the national political systems.

Written or oral examination.

Content

The course is divided into two parts. Part I encompasses the several aspects of the europeanisation of the policies, politics and even of the legal and constitutional system of the Member States, with an emphasis on the europeanisation of the Belgian system. Part II analyses and assesses the participation of the member States in the EU institutional decision making, with an emphasis on the Belgian case and its specific arrangements concerning the role of the sub-national entities in the shaping of the Belgian positions on the EU issues.
