  • The impact of globalisation on actors and regulations in contemporary societies

  • Elites and social engineering
  • Deconstruction of external interventions at the local level

  • At the end of the course, students will engage in a simulation game that illustrates theoretical concepts in a real-life environment l
Aims

The course stimulates students to analyse how actors contribute in the establishment of institutional rules that allow a given society to structure itself and its actors to live together.

Evaluation methods

The evaluation will be based upon three components: active participation in class, a paper written with fellow students, and an individual written exam. The collective paper has to apply the topics of one or several sessions to the context of a developing country. It has to be based upon the course contents and the scientific literature related to the chosen topic. The individual exam will analyse the simulation game dynamics and will link these dynamics to the contents of the collective paper.

Teaching methods

The course will draw from various scholarly papers, and will present lessons from specific research experiences.
