Main themes The lectures introduce the observation and the recording methods, the processing of the data, the managing of the analytical possibilities, the dating methods and the chronological interpretation.
Aims Introduction to the methods of and to the possibilities offered by the building archaeology.
Evaluation methods

Indivual written essay ; oral examination on the field trips, the theoretical lectures and the essay.

Teaching methods

Ex cathedra (methods) and field trips (individual training).
Readings : the selection of specialised and monographical papers will depend on the actuality.

Content

Content: The lectures introduce briefly the legal framwork in Europe, Belgium and Walloon Region. The study of buildt structures or vestiges depend on methods and problematics based on the technical observation of the materials used, worked and assembled, and the styles. The analytical study of these materials and the dating possibilities will be pointed out. The data processing will be trained on the field (observation-recording), leading to chronological and structural hypotheses in choosen sites and buildings. All the methods and ressources are explained with the help of illustrated examples.
