Main themes For the 5 skills mentioned above, the level to be reached by the end of the course is level B 1 (upper) of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (Council of Europe) Reading Comprehension: The student can understand in detail texts on subjects relating to his/her area of study and can understand the writer's point of view. Listening Comprehension: The student can understand in detail audio-visual text on general topics and/or topics relating to his/her area of study and can follow clearly articulated speech in a conversation. Speaking: The student can express him/herself clearly and in detail on a range of subjects both general and relating to his/her area of study, express an opinion and participate in a conversation without preparation. Language work: - building up medical and scientific vocabulary, - reinforcement of specific structures in English, - correction of major lexical and grammatical mistakes.
Aims Medical English course aimed at improving knowledge of grammar, general and scientific vocabulary ; reading and listening strategies required for the intermediate level course in BAC 3. At the end of this module (end of BAC 2), the student will have reached level B1(upper) of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages in five skills: - reading comprehension, - listening comprehension, - speaking, - language work, - writing.
Content To be completed by the course teacher when the courses are attributed - The course is based on different medical and scientific topics presented as reading texts and videos; - The student reads texts at home using reading techniques acquired; - Video input is analysed extensively and intensively; - The student makes an oral presentation using material from different sources.
Other information Pre-requisites: Course ANGL 1854 in BAC1 Student must have reached level B1 (lower) of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (Council of Europe) Evaluation: 1 Continuous Assessment, 2 Regular vocabulary and pronunciation tests (summative assessment), 3 Presentation in class, 4 Final written examination. Volume of work - Attendance: 24 hours - Self-study: 24 hours Pedagogical support: 1 Course notes, 2 CD-Rom for self-study (obligatory), 3 Audio cassette with soundtrack of videos watched in class (optional), 4 Vocabulary book. Organisation: maximum of 25 students per group each teacher is available during his/her office hours and may be contacted by email
