Main themes Read articles and reports on current matters where authors have adopted a particular attitude or a certain point of view; understand a current literary text in prose; understand most TV news and current affairs programmes; understand most films in standard language; understand relatively long lectures or talks and follow an argumentation on a familiar topic; understand a conversation with a native speaker on a familiar topic express oneself clearly on a large variety of topics related to one's field; develop his/her opinion on a current affair and explain the pros and cons of the different possibilities; communicate spontaneously and with ease in a normal interaction with a native speaker; take an active part in informal discussion in familiar contexts, presenting and defending one's point of view write a simple and coherent text on familiar topics or of personal interest; write personal letters to describe experiences and impressions; master the basic vocabulary (2000 words) and the basic structures of the German language. Consolidation and extension of vocabulary. Special attention will be paid to pronunciation. At all previously mentioned levels: sensitisation for the culture of the German speaking countries.

Content Content and methodologyThe course is centred around different topics (i.e.: shopping, telephoning, world of work, ...). Learning with didactical or authentic material (listening and reading comprehension). Consolidation and extension of basic vocabulary and the basic structures of the German language by written or oral exercises (drills, role-plays, interviews, discussion in small groups of 2 up to 4).
Other information Prerequisites: To have passed the ALLE 1800 or ALLE 1100 course Assessment: Different points enter into the final evaluation: continuous assessment, written and oral examination Course material: Syllabus, audio- and video-tapes (available at C.A.A.); + Tangram 1B+2, book: « allemand - Vocabulaire de base » (published by Langenscheidt) Training staff: class and groups of maximum 25 students; teacher is available during his contact hours and can be reached via e-mail.
