Main themes Hazards related to - contacts with water and soils - contacts with insects and arachnids - ingestion of food and drank - contacts with animals - human beings (transmissible diseases, violence, …) - the physical environment
Aims Ability to inform travellers on specific hazards and risks in tropical countries, and on preventive and prophylactic measures.
Content Self-teaching distance learning on internet : slides, notes, links, quiz, case studies can be found on http://www.icampus.ucl.ac.be/MD2130 The 7 x 2h lectures allow the teacher to illustrate, comment and clarify matters. Some films are projected as a complement to the self-teaching on internet.
Other information Prerequisites : This course is open to all students with a minimum of biological knowledges and medical vocabulary. Focused on prevention and prophylaxis, it is complementary to the clinical course on " tropical diseases " but does not require specific medical knowledge. Evaluation : MCQ Support : self-teaching course on internet ; notes can be printed from it
