Main themes The fundamental elements of Spanish grammar, vocabulary, and communicative functions will be highlighted through the study of short texts. These elements will then be applied in practice to specific exercises of oral and written expression and of listening comprehension. Certain readings, more importantly, as well as the viewing of videos, will provide an introduction to the history and culture of the Hispanic world.
Aims At the end of the course, the student will be able to read any type of text written in contemporary Spanish, to understand standard spoken dialogues pronounced at moderate intervals and dealing with everyday life, to produce a correct text along the lines of examples studied in the course (dialogue at the doctor or in a shop; biography, etc.), to be able to take part in a conversation on subjects they are familiar with. To this end, the student will learn the normative grammar of Spanish and will be able to apply these rules in the sentences in question. Moreover, the student will receive an introduction to the history and culture of the Hispanic world.
Content Introduction to short standard Spanish texts of various types (stories, dialogue, etc.) and in various forms (written, audio-visual) from which more general rules are induced, which students assimilate during various exercises that also aim to develop their linguistic abilities. In parallel, work on longer documents (reading comprehension, production of summaries). This course aims to develop communicative skills (cf. notional-functional objectives: for example, describing a place, undertaking projects, speaking about the past, compiling a biography, etc.) and grammatical knowledge (mastery of the use of all Spanish verbal tenses and modes, with particular attention to the complex sentence; deeper understanding, in the use of all determiners and pronouns).
