Language
Place
of the course
Louvain-la-Neuve
Main themes The fifty hours of practice are divided into three parts : 1. observation and analysis of teaching methods (10 hours) to encourage students to become involved with the class by meeting their future pupils and their supervisor. 2. teaching practice (40 hours) which enables future teachers to try out the various ideas covered in the theoretical classes under the guidance of supervisors approved by UCL. 3. public lessons.
Aims By the end of the practice periods, students will have demonstrated their ability to - design, plan and teach lessons in Classics (Latin and Greek) in both lower and higher levels of secondary education ; - adapt to different professional situations in a variety of educational environments working closely with their supervisors.

The contribution of this Teaching Unit to the development and command of the skills and learning outcomes of the programme(s) can be accessed at the end of this sheet, in the section entitled “Programmes/courses offering this Teaching Unit”.

Content Students select their supervisors (a minimum of three, from three different schools) from the list of supervisors approved by UCL. They should agree on the arrangements for the observation sessions and the active lessons. Students may organize their practice period to reflect their personal interests as long as their lessons are balanced between Latin and Greek, and also the three different levels in higher education.
Other information Prerequisites : Students are required to take courses in teaching ancient languages and general teaching in parallel. Assessment : Assessment of what students have achieved during the practice period is done by the supervisors using the criteria in the marking grid for observation sessions. Exemption from part of the teaching practice may be granted to students who are already teaching. Aids : A manual is available to students. Under the terms of article 76 paragraph 3 of the Decree of 31 March 2004 on what constitutes higher education, bringing it into line with European higher education and refinancing the universitites, public lessons will no longer be organized in the September semester.
