Main themes According to the needs of his researches, the student will choose to attend one of the following seminars, constituting different modules of the interuniversity FNRS Postgraduate degree in Indology : 1. South-Indian palaeography and epigraphy ; 2. Dravidian philology ; 3. Reading of indigenous Sanskrit commentaries.
Aims To be initiated into the advanced philological research in Indology (Sanskrit and Dravidian studies) by means of various questions dealing with palaeography, epigraphy, or reading of indigenous commentaries.

The contribution of this Teaching Unit to the development and command of the skills and learning outcomes of the programme(s) can be accessed at the end of this sheet, in the section entitled “Programmes/courses offering this Teaching Unit”.

Content Depending of the year, the seminar of South-Indian palaeography and epigraphy will consist either in an introductory course of South-Indian epigraphy (Sanskrit, Prakrit and Tamil), or in reading exercises of Sanskrit manuscripts in Malayàëam or Grantha scripts; the seminar of Dravidian philology will consist either in an introductory course to Malayàëam language and culture, or in an introductory course of Tamil studies ; as for the seminar of reading indigenous Sanskrit commentaries, it is given by various specialists of technical or poetic texts dispaying special difficulties.
Other information Prerequiste: elementary knowledge of Sanskrit. Examination: according to the chosen module.
