Main themes |
From the expertise of visiting Western or Asian specialists, the Satsuma Chair of Buddhist studies will provide a detailed analysis of a topic related to the Buddhist world, Indian or Far-Eastern, either in history or in the contemporary period. This special question will change every year but it will be related to: - Linguistic, philological and literary topics - Religious, philosophical or cultural problems - Socio-anthropological debates.

Aims |
At the end of this course, the student will be capable of identifying the adequate sources, methods and results, in terms of logic and structure, of the in depth analysis of a phenomenon related to the Buddhist world, Indian or Far-Eastern, understood as a whole.
The student will develop the documentary basis of their essay, propose different angles from which the topic can be approached. They will devote a special attention to the critique of available sources.

The Satsuma Chair will consist of a series of lectures, upheld with adequate teaching methods, according to the holder of the chair.

Prerequiste: none.
Examination: A critical essay will throw the light on the characteristics of the sources which have been used, their biases and their corollary limits; the choices made by the authors and their conclusions will also be critically analysed.
The student will develop the documentary basis of their essay, propose different angles from which the topic can be approached. They will devote a special attention to the critique of available sources.
