Main themes Revision of the essential grammar points. Study of the important historical texts and letters dating mainly from the 14th and 13th centuries B.C. An introduction to hieroglyphic Hittite writing as well as a study of the seals are also planned.
Aims A good knowledge of the Hittite and Akkadian languages. The ability to transcribe a cuneiform text, to use the dictionaries, the literary journals and collections quite well.
Content Study of the important historical and religious texts dating mainly from the Hittite Empire. An introduction to hieroglyphic Hittite writing is also planned, with 15 hours of practical exercises. Photocopied notes will be handed out to the students
Other information Prerequisite : Being initiated to the languages in cuneiform writing or having followed the courses GLOR 1611-1612. Evaluation : translation and comments on an unseen text. Texts and books : photocopied notes will be handed out to the students.
