| Main themes |
The seminar will concentrate on a theme in the area of philosophical aesthetics determined by its organizers in relation to research projects they are participating in. It may also consist of collective, critical, and sustained close reading of an important text in aesthetics or in the philosophy of art.
The seminar requires active participation by students at each session.
Professors, UCL researchers who express interest, and specialists in the topic area not from the UCL may attend the seminar.

| Aims |
Upon completion of the seminar the student shall have demonstrated :
The ability to pursue a research topic in philosophical aesthetics based on a critical analysis of major works and other texts by authors that deal with the topic in question, as well as contributions presented within the framework of the seminar;
The ability to write a scientific paper on a precise research topic that is appropriate to the theme of the seminar ;
The ability to participate actively in collective research into philosophical aesthetics, especially through participation in discussion of contributions made within the framework of the seminar;

| Evaluation methods |
Evaluation : Evaluation shall be based on a paper written by the student, and also based on his or her participation in the work of the seminar.

| Content |
The course will be devoted to a reading of the first part of Kant’s third Critique: "Critique of aesthetic judgment."
Different themes will be emphasized: specificity of aesthetic judgment, aesthetic freedom, form, imagination, concept of common sense ...
The course will be a seminar:
Students are encouraged to actively participate by presenting a question or a text passage

| Bibliography |
An indicative bibliography will be provided on icampus.
The course will use the French translation by A. Philonenko (Vrin, several dates). Students may use any French translation available or German text.

Prerequisites : The student shall have completed course work for the 1st and 2nd cycles in introductory philosophical aesthetics and/or philosophy of art. He or she shall possess general knowledge of the principal problems, approaches, and concepts in these areas.
