Main themes The course analyses the condition given to individuals in the European Union, more specifically stressing their rights and the protection given them in the Union system. For example, the following themes are covered: - freedom of movement, freedom of establishment and free provision of services (art. 39-55 CE); "European citizenship" (art. 17-22 CE); - migration policy (art. 60 CE ss); - access to European jurisdiction (art. 229, 230, 232, 234, 235, 238, 241, CE, in what concerns the rights of individuals); - protection of human rights in the European Union; - equality and non-discrimination (art. 12-13 CE).
Aims The aim of the course on the status of persons in the European Union is to give an in-depth knowledge of the case law of the European Court of Justice in the field, thus allowing the student to understand the importance of this case-law in the building of Community law concerning persons and more specifically European citizenship.
