Main themes The theme covered varies from year to year. Among the proposed or potential themes, are environmental economics, vulgarisation in biological sciences, business and biodiversity, …
Aims The aim of the workshops is to open the students in biology to domains that in principle are not part of their academic cursus. The aim is also to develop the students' skills and capacities in a research approach, both personally and by groups.
Content The seminar first includes an initiation to the proposed theme and a set of speeches / debates led by personalities who are professionally involved in the various topics proposed (academic representatives, public managers, corporate managers or representatives, …). The participation of the students entails the following tasks: (1) reading and analysis of papers published in specialised literature; (2) active class discussions, on the relevance and scope of proposed approaches; (3) group works (three or four students), which will be presented and discussed the last day of the workshops. For the latter, a research question or a reflection theme is submitted to each group at the beginning of the workshops. The workshops are organised on one to one and a half week.
Other information No pre-requisite. Evaluation takes place through assessment of activity during the session discussions, and on the basis of the quality and relevance of the final presentation. The supports, under the form of articles to read and PowerPoint files of the presentations, are provided by the various speakers (including the coordinator).
