Aims Reading comprehension: At the end of the course, students should be able to understand in detail both descriptive and argumentative texts concerning general topics as well as oriented towards their fields of interest in psychology and educational science. C1– level of CEF Listening comprehension: At the end of the course, students should be able to understand in detail lectures as well as radio and TV programmes concerning general topics and oriented towards their fields of interest in standard and clearly articulated English language. B2– level of CEF Code By the end of the course, students should have mastered : - vocabulary (elementary, intermediate, academic and specific). - grammar (verb forms). - phonetic symbols and stress patterns.
Content - preparation : individual text reading (at home) following reading strategies. - extensive and intensive text analysis and commentary in class. - extensive and intensive exercises of video programmes in laboratory. - explanations and exercises on verb forms. - explanations of the English sound system and stress patterns. - correction of mistakes of pronunciation of both general and specific vocabulary.
Other information Prerequisites: A2+ level of the CEF. Assessment - At the beginning of the year : exemption test. - At the end of the first term : exemption test on part of vocabulary (self-tuition). - At regular intervals : tests on grammar. - At the end of the year : written exam and non-interactive oral exam. Course material 1. Course notes : "English for psychologists" (from ILV). 2. CD-Rom containing self-tuition material (from ILV). 3. Audio CD containing the listening comprehension material.
