Main themes Read in details lengthy and complex texts, related or not to the field of study, providing reading difficult passages several times; understand a current literary text in prose; understand a piece of poetic work; understand a wide range of recorded and broadcast audio material (interviews from native speakers, news, films, … keep up with an animated conversation between native speakers; easily keep up with exchanges between external partners in a discussion group and a debate, and take part in it on abstract, complex and unfamiliar topics; cope with less routine situations in shops, stations (airports), banks or at town hall; develop his/her opinion on a current affair and report it in a group of discussion; communicate spontaneously and with ease in a normal interaction with a native speaker; take an active part in informal discussion in familiar contexts (or on topics not related to field of interest), presenting and defending one's point of view; write short, simple essays on topics of interest; write personal letters to describe experiences and impressions. Consolidation and extension of vocabulary. Special attention will be paid to pronunciation. At all previously mentioned levels: sensitisation for the culture of the German speaking countries.

Content The course is centred around different topics (i.e.: shopping, telephoning, world of work, ...). Learning with didactical or authentic material (listening and reading comprehension). Consolidation and extension of basic vocabulary and the basic structures of the German language by written or oral exercises (drills, role-plays, interviews, discussion in small groups of 2 up to 4).
Other information Prerequisites: To have passed the ALLE 1300 course Assessment Different points enter into the final evaluation: continuous assessment, written and oral examination Course material: Syllabus, audio- and video-tapes (available at C.A.A.); Book: « allemand - Vocabulaire de base » (published by Langenscheidt) Training staff: Class and groups of maximum 25 students; Teacher is available during his contact hours and can be reached via e-mail. Advice for the use of the Self-Learning Centre (C.A.A.) and the Multimedia Room Other - class hours: 90; - individual work: 30
