Main themes Practitioners routinely involved in evaluation and management of chronic pain patients give this course. 1. Presentation of epidemiological, socio-economical and ethical problems concerning pain. 2. Updating of neuropsychology of the nociceptive system, articulated with FYSL1132, MED13 and MED21. 3. Updating of pharmacology, drugs for chronic pain, articulated with PHAR 2121 4. Clinical methods of pain assessment 5. Presentation and discussion of case histories related to chronic pain. 6. Therapeutic management: specific aspects of analgesic drug prescription, specialized methods (spinal cord stimulation, intrathecal drug administration, …), rehabilitation and physical reactivation and psychotherapeutic interventions. 7. The Multidisciplinary Pain Clinic: aims and organization
Aims The first aim of this course is to demonstrate, by theory and clinical practice, the advantages of an integrated multidisciplinary approach for the evaluation and management of acute and chronic pain states. Secondary aims concern updating of neuropsychological mechanisms and presentation of new therapeutic resources.
Content This pain management course is complementary to the others courses (Phar 2121,FYSL1132, MED 13, MED 21) and specially dedicated to all the future medical doctors who will be in charge of acute and chronic pain patients in daily practice.
Other information The lectures will combine a theoretical and a practical approach with audiovisual support and interviews of patients
