Main themes Relations between drama and governments, territorial entities, communities and market forces. The theatre is studied both as an institution and as a privileged location in the city, a space for exchanges with the public, a locus of collective creativity. From the status of the actor to the place of the text, the conditions of elaboration and intervention are investigated.
Aims The development of an understanding of the political, economic and social environment of the stage arts at local, national and European level.
Content Teacher-led course: comparative analyses, concrete situational and case studies, reviews of historical data and reports on the current state of affairs, contributions on survey and synthesis methodology. Discussions. Personal research work.
Other information Participation in discussions. Oral presentation of research in progress. Compilation of a personal file analysing a theatre establishment, artistic project, cultural event or problem relating to public arts policy, based around a survey and documentation (statutes, press clippings, declarations of intent, budgets, audience statistics, historical background, programmes, etc.).
