| Main themes |
Presentation and critical discussion in the seminar of all the stages of a research procedure or a significant sequence in it.
Stages in research procedure : definition of a first topic, formulation of hypotheses and theoretical framework, construction of models for analysis (operationalization), selection and implementation of an information collection method, interpretation and discussion of overall procedure and results obtained.
The following stages need to be properly done : awareness of the current state of research on the topic, field, area or issue ; justification of choice of area (accessibility of data and information) ; justification of theoretical options ; formulation of a method for collecting and analysing data.

| Aims |
This seminar is designed to develop students' ability to acquire three kinds of expertise : understanding and appropriate use of conceptual tools relating to the area of families, couples and sexuality; ability to select a research methodology (using tools for the production and analysis of data); production of a piece of work.
As far as the theoretical perspective, methodology, methods and techniques of production and analysis of data are concerned, students should be capable of selecting the most appropriate for a particular research topic.

The following stages are covered :
- delimitation/definition of area of research ;
- clarification of scope of research (question, issue, theoretical options) ;
- understanding the area (delimitation, presentation, approach) ;
- selection and implementation of techniques for data collection and processing ;
- drawing up a relevant bibliography
Method :
The seminar is focused on students' research projects. Attendance is compulsory and active participation required.

Prerequisites : SEX 2135 Multidisciplinary approaches to families, couples and sexuality and elements of methodology
Assessment: the methods of assessment will be explained by the lecturer(s) in charge at the beginning of the course.
Final assessment :
Attendance at the seminar is obligatory ; there is continuous assessment on students' contribution to the seminar, and on their production and defence of a summary note.
During the seminar, students are given various assignments which are assessed on an individual basis.
Supervision : the seminar is led by a team of lecturers in each subject. iCampus may be used for communication between participants in the seminar.
