Main themes Analysis of various musical composition systems, from the dark ages up to now.
Aims Deepening of students' competences in musical analysis, both in the fields of tonal music and other writing types.
Content The course begins with an introduction to the evolution of the language of western music, known as "savante". Then, it deepens some musical "grammars" significant for the study of music sheets and an analytic listening of chosen works. Teaching methods : Magistral lectures and exercices. Obligatory readings : - Ian BENT et William DRABKIN, L'analyse musicale : histoire et méthodes, trad. de l'anglais par Annie Coeurdevey e.a., Nice, Main d'oeuvre, 1998.
Other information Prerequisite: The course is open to students having followed the minor in musicology or having basic music knowledge. Evaluation: continuous assesment for the exercices and exam at the end of the year. Support: summary of the course and pedagogical material available in ppt files on i-campus, or through the departement ARKE or art history.
