Main themes Study of Akkadian and Hittite texts dating from the second and first millennium BC. Examples of such texts are Hittite treaties, ritual texts or prayers, Akkadian texts from Ugarit or Emar or Middle or Neo-Assyrian royal inscriptions.
Aims Good knowledge of the Akkadian and Hittite languages. The student must be able to transcribe and translate a cuneiform text and to utilize in a correct manner the dictionaries, grammars, magazines and text editions.
Content The main goal of the course is the reading of Akkadian and Hittite texts. Copies of the texts will be distributed by the instructor.
Other information Prerequisites: introduction to Akkadian and Hittite (level GLOR 1611-1612). Evaluation: written exam; transcription and translation de of two texts, one seen and one unseen. Support: Copies of the texts will be distributed by the instructor. Possibility to take only Akkadian or Hittite (6 credits)
