Main themes By emphazising the written sources at our disposal, The course provides the chronological and geographical framework of the ancient Near-Eastern and Egyptian civilisations, and next focuses on the main periods and key reigns.
Aims This course, designed as an introduction to the ancient Near-Eastern and Egyptian civilisations, aims at giving students an overview of the historical and geographical background of these civilisations.
Content The course deals with the ancient Near-Eastern (Asia Minor, Syria and Mesopotamia) and Pharaonic Egyptian civilisations. Historical introduction : geographical and chronological framework ; historical introduction: geographical and chronological framework; sources at the base of historical reconstructions; principle periods and key reigns; points of contact between different civilisations
Other information Course entry requirements: none. Evaluation: Students will be assessed orally at the end of the year on their knowledge of the course and their required reading. Course material: A summary of the course and a bibliography will be provided. The course is richly illustrated.
