Main themes Formal and informal phone calls, messages on answering machines, interview, reporting news, giving opinions, convincing, blaming' - Learning and integrating the various parameters that are necessary for good communication: volume, flow, body language, intonation, phonetics) - Technical exercise on rhythm, flow, volume , intonation and phonetics
Aims The entity responsible for the course description defines the skills and the knowledge which the student must have acquired at the end of the activity of training (maximum 10 lines) At the end of this course, the students are supposed to be able to do in: Listening - can generally follow the main points of extended discussion around him/her, provided speech is clearly articulated in standard dialect; - can understand the information content of the majority of recorded or broadcast audio material on topics of personal interest delivered in clear standard speech. Spoken production - can narrate a story or relate the plot of a book or film and describe their reactions; - can deliver short, rehearsed announcements on a topic pertinent to everyday occurrences in his/her field; - can give a prepared straightforward presentation on a familiar topic within his/her field Spoken interaction - can enter unprepared into conversation on familiar topics, - can express personal opinions and exchange information on topics that are familiar, of personal interest or pertinent to everyday life; - can compare and contrast alternatives, discussing what to do, where to go, who or which to choose, etc; - can put over a point of view clearly and take part in routine formal discussion of familiar subjects
Content The course is divided into three phases. The first part is dedicated on warming-up exercises (work on rythm, intonation, phonetics, bodylanguage). The second part focuses on a genuine document (conversation, phone-call, interviews, debate') and on vocabulary. The third part consists in producing a speech adapted to the situation of communication seen previously.
Other information Prerequisites ( Ideally in terms of skills) To master lower intermediate skills (level A2) as described in the common European Framework of reference of the Council of Europe during an oral placement test. Assessment During the semester: Oral presentation (20%), test (10%), personal involvement (10%). The examination programme (60%): phonetics: pronounciation, intonation and rhythm (20%) , speaking production: a talk prepared of 5 ' on an imposed subject, interaction: unprepared conversation on familiar topics.
