| Main themes |
The EU beeing a major power in the international system and an active promoter of the mutilateral exchanges within the international institutions.
The EU professes to be a proponant of the political and economical mutlilateralism of international relations which is based on a legal system which strives for the implementation of new regulatory targets.
Due to its size and it spheres of influence, the EU is at the heart of this new mutilpolarity which in the context of this lecture concerns its relationships with the US, Russia, China, Japan and the principal emerging countries e.g. India and Brazil.

| Aims |
The lecture aims to familiarize the students with the two major international structures present on the playing field in which the EU is committed.

| Content |
- Overview of the strategic partnerships between the EU and the US, Russia, China, Japan, India and Brazil
- Position, sphere of influence and subsequent behaviour of the EU and its member states within the international organizations such as the UN General Assembly and Security Council, the WTO, the IMF, UNESCO including the G8 and the contact groups as well (Yugoslavia and the Middle-East).
- Debate on the balance between multipolarity and multilateralims, and its repercussions on the EU's foreign policy.
