Main themes |
The teaching approaches the general questions related to the formation of protohistoric Europe, between the end of the Neolithic and the second age of Iron and considers the protohistoric cultures and the archaeological material. It makes it possible to develop a critical analysis of the research topics and to bind the approaches by multi-field steps.

Aims |
Advanced training in national archaeology and Prehistory. The formation concerns the protohistoric cultures of the North and the North-West of Europe, with an application more particular to Belgium and the bordering countries.

Content |
Content : The main course gives a general vision of the protohistoric period in Europe and especially in the North-West of the continent. The cultures of the Bronze Ages and Iron are presented, especially on Belgium and the bordering countries. Some specific topics are also taken like the landscape and the environment, the habitat, the fortifications, the sanctuaries, funerary archaeology and the archaeological material. The second part of the course concerns some specific research topics.
Teaching methods : The main part of the teaching concerns reports covering basic information and papers presented by professor and researchers invited. Organization of visits and participation in archaeological sites, important demonstrations and exhibition are important part of the course.
Compulsory readings : Five principal titles will be presented and commented during the sessions.
