Main themes In this course, students will be shown charters of international, national and regional legislative documents relating to heritage conservation and introduced to the institutions which govern the field. Specific terms will be defined (built and moveable heritage, conservation, preservation, restoration, authenticity) and an overview of the history of heritage conservation will be presented. Students will also be given a brief history of Museology and introduced to the principles of modern Museology, taking in both museums and exhibitions.
Aims By the end of this course, students should have acquired a broad overview of the founding texts of heritage conservation, their general principles, the organizations involved, definitions of terms (built and moveable heritage etc) and general principles of Museology and its historical development.
Content This is a theoretical course examining issues relating to the conservation of public property and buildings and issues in present-day Museology.
