Content and teaching methods
This course aims to provide the students with a better knowledge of African theologies. It will propose three important witnesses of African theology.
After a short historical and thematic presentation of African theology, the course will focus on the works of three main figures: Alioune Diop, Engelbert Mveng, and Joseph Malula.
Alioune Diop, a layman, was not a theologian. Yet, as a philosopher, he was able to seize the epistemological, thematic, and methodological stakes of African theology. He still continues to indicate the horizons to follow and the difficulties to overcome.
As a historian, artist, and theologian passionate with Bible, E. Mveng successfully brought together this interdisciplinarity for the service of African theology. He engages in a methodical and fruitful dialogue between biblical scholars and African theologians.
Finally, Cardinal J. Malula, as a pastor and a theologian, brought endlessly African theology to its pastoral challenges, as did the Fathers of the Church. In so doing, he establishes a dialogue between theologians and the magisterium for an ecclesial service.
In sum, in the light of these three figures, we will locate African theology in the dynamics of the African synods.
