By the end of the course and exercise tutorials, students will:
- be able to distinguish and name the parts of speech and to identify the functions these are likely to take on in a French sentence;
- be able to distinguish the types of propositions in a compound sentence;
- be able to formulate and systematically apply the rules of normative grammar;
- know the main rules of spelling;
- be able to reflect on the norm and its applications.
Main themes
The course will combine lectures and exercises which will comprise of the analysis of the parts of speech and of syntactic propositions; the rules of agreement, as well as verb morphology and the main rules of spelling in French. Students will learn to justify the way they apply these rules.
