This series of lectures intends to motivate the student by giving him/her an open and attractive view of today's mathematics and physics. It should also help to finalize the choice of studies at the end of the first year.
Main themes
Ten independent non technical talks, accessible to every first year student in mathematics or physics, on various topics in these areas on which research is presently developed.
Content and teaching methods
Each student will attend all the talks and write a ten pages report, containing two distinct parts.
* a first part (two or three pages) explaining the vision of mathematics and phisics that he/she got from these lectures, in comparison with his/her corresponding vision at the end of highschool;
* a second part devoted to investigate more deeply the topic of one of the lectures; to achieve this, the student is invited to develop some personal work on the basis of the references given by the lecturer.
