By the end of this course, students will have acquired the following:
1) a core Greek-French vocabulary (c. 1,600 words);
2) active mastery of the basics of Classical Greek.
Main themes
A systematic approach to the basics of Greek grammar (completed by numerous exercises). The course combines theory and practice and covers the following areas: in-depth study of Greek phonology and morphology; acquisition of a core vocabulary.
Content and teaching methods
The lectures offer a systematic study of classical Greek grammar (descriptive phonology ; synchronic and diachronic morphology of Classical Attic dialect), together with varied exercises in grammar (made during the lectures or made at home and corrected in the class-room).

Course entry requirements: No previous knowledge of Greek is required but students who are beginners in Greek are recommended to acquire the basic notions of grammar and vocabulary by taking the Beginners' Greek course given during the first term (FLTR 1770).
Evaluation : continuous assessment throughout the year through oral testing and personal work. The end-of-year examination is a written test.
Special requirements: This course should be followed together with GLOR 1173 (Greek language and texts).
