The entity responsible for the course description defines the skills and the knowledge which the student must have acquired at the end of the activity of training (maximum 10 lines).
At the end of this course, the students can:
- understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialization;
- interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party;
- produce clear, detailed speech on a wide range of subjects and explain viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantage and the disadvantages of various options.
Main themes
Discussion on abstract topics, professional phone calls, debate, interaction with functional objectives, discussion to convince, interview of an expert, presentation of technical issues, professional meeting).Focus is put on both contents (selection of relevant examples, articulation of ideas, organization ) and fluency.
Content and teaching methods
The course is divided into three phases. The first part is dedicated on warming-up exercises (work on rhythm, intonation, phonetics, bodylanguage). The second part focuses on various documents as well as on vocabulary. The third part consists in producing a speech adapted to the situation of communication seen previously.

Prerequisites ( Ideally in terms of skills)
To master intermediate skills (level B1) as described in the common European Framework of reference of the Council of Europe during an oral placement test.
Assessment:
During the semester:
Oral interaction (20%), test (10%), personal involvement (10%).
The examination programme (60%): presentation of a radio programme (20%) and defending a viewpoint in a debate (20%), interpretation of a text (pronounciation, intonation and rhythm (20%).
