By the end of this course, students will be capable, as educational psychologists, of playing an active role in the training of future teachers in the primary and secondary sectors in the fields of exploration of the natural, human and social environment.
More particularly, they will be able to analyse the teaching methods of a teaching project in these areas and make recommendations for improvement with reference to didactic principles and academic and expert knowledge on learning techniques.
Main themes
The course is designed to identify, in an integrated way, different methodological principles necessary to structure and organize learning in natural sciences (physics, chemistry, biology etc.) and human and social sciences (history, geography, social sciences etc.).
From a methodological perspective, students are encouraged to make links between practical cases (tools, methods, experiences) and theoretical frameworks and to identify the didactic, psychological and epistemological foundations.
Content and teaching methods
- Exploration of the "representations" of students and the epistemological foundations of the disciplinary fields relating to the study of the natural, human and social environment.
- Training in basic concepts (environment, natural environment, human and social environment, time, cross-disciplinary concepts, scientific methods etc.).
- Critical choice of the teaching methods appropriate from the perspective of development of skills.
- Practical applications in different environments.
Deliberately differentiated according to traditional criteria, the disciplines of geography, history and natural sciences form the subject of an epistemological approach, the aim of which is to establish:
a) the role they play in helping to understand the environment;
b) the practical issues of how they can be used;
c) the ideological limits which can arise at this level.
The training includes real treatment of a case (an "ordinary" environment).
Reading exercises and correction-design of "intervention projects for teaching" will help students produce their own intervention project.
Other information (prerequisite, evaluation (assessment methods), course materials recommended readings, ...)
Development of a teaching strategy adapted to adults including the link between theory and practice, work in groups, training assessment and work on using material in practice. The training and assessment methods used must reflect the principles students have been taught.
