After this course, students should be able to apply data given in the pharmacognosy course to perform a critical scientific and non scientific bibliographical review on medicinal plants. The aim is to help the student to take an appropriate position on this literature, particularly on active molecules and given indications. They should also be able to propose at least theoretically a quality control monograph.
Main themes
Bibliographical review and critical evaluation of literature collected on chosen medicinal plants: composition, active molecules (known or potential), critical evaluation of activities in relation with their composition and pharmacological tests described, proposition of a quality control method.
Content and teaching methods
On the basis of a literature review, the student, alone or in small groups, will perform a critical study of a document on a medicinal plant and will propose a monograph to control its quality. A written document should be presented orally and will be discussed with the teacher.
